INTRODUCTION
Get on the Fast Track to Success With Our Construction Certificate Programs &
Building Construction Classes!
The 107 Construction Materials and Processes online course is designed to give you an overall understanding of materials and methods to advance your construction career and become part of your knowledge base for construction certificate programs such as our Certificate in Construction Estimating and the Certificate in Construction Practices.
Every week in this building construction class, we will study one material category, one specific construction process, and an overall construction system. The student will have the opportunity to expand the studies to include materials and processes the student normally encounters in his/her work place. Students are expected to research and report on the session materials and processes with respect to sustainable or “green” construction.
SELF-PACED
A self paced course can be started at any time. You must complete the course within 10 weeks but you can work through the course as quickly as you like.
There are no weekly goals and no interaction with other students. Please check your inbox to read additional information in your welcome email.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students can expect to expand their knowledge and be one step closer to completing the construction certificate programs. By the end of this class, students will:
Be able to recognize quality control procedures for various materials
Be familiar with material manufacturing processes
Understand the physical limitations of the materials we are studying
Understand how the materials we are studying are used in construction
Know where to find information about materials when needed
Understand the regulatory environment under which materials are manufactured and incorporated into new structures
Know the relevant history of each material
Know the important aspects of how each material is used in construction processes

CLASS ORGANIZATION & GRADING
It is important that you keep up with the class and do not fall behind. Students who are deliberate and diligent with their studies will have an easier time achieving success in any course in the construction certificate programs or any building construction class in which you register.
Course modules will be made available to students on Sunday of each week. Class work must be completed before the following Monday. Students will not be able to work ahead of the class but the reading assignments will be made available in advance. Modules will become available on dates posted on the course calendar.
GRADING POLICIES
Graded assignments will consist of one quiz for each module and participation in at least two class discussions. Class discussions are a very important part of this course. For that reason, the regular weekly discussions are even more important than the weekly quizzes. Each quiz will count 10 points and class discussions will count 15 points per module. Students should provide at least 4 contributions to the class discussions each week to gain the maximum points.
Grades will be posted on a weekly basis. You will have full access to your grade sheet so you will be able to keep track of how you are doing at all times.
Your overall grade in the course will be determined by the total number of points you have accumulated on quizzes and assignments.
The grading scale is as follows:
A
225 to 250 points
B
200 to 224 points
C
175 to 199points
D
150 to 174 points
F
Anything less will be considered an unauthorized withdrawal from the course
You will be given more information about the grading and other course matters in the Orientation Module.
This course is a prerequisite for our construction certificate programs such as the Certificate in Construction Estimating.
