The SDSU Certificate in Construction Estimating equips students with a variety of resources and practice in blueprint reading, case study analysis, estimating and bidding. Students practice assembling a quantity take off demonstrating the equipment, man hours, and materials for the job, sustainable construction practices,researching and identifying best estimating and documentation processes to case studies commonly encountered on site, and more.

Loved the problem-solving questions throughout the course and in the quizzes and thought all of the information presented tested my knowledge and challenged me to think more critically before reaching any concrete conclusions. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

This was an excellent course, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about the construction trades in general, and anyone with an interest in developing the necessary understanding of blueprint reading and some of the real-world scenarios one might encounter working in this field.
This is a great course with great instruction, and a great wealth of information. The class discussions are something I really value as the interaction between other students provides more insight into how the information is interpreted and also provides a means of working through some of the more complicated, intensive coursework/material.
This class has been a blast this semester. Learning from you all and your different perspectives will help all of us in the long run.

The most useful thing I learned this semester was how to approach estimating in a structured, step by step way. Breaking down quantities from drawings, applying production rates, and tying them back to costs gave me a much clearer picture of how estimates are built in practice. it was helpful to be able to ask questions to my coworkers when I would get stuck or confused.
The most useful thing I learned this semester was how to think like an estimator—breaking down a project into clear divisions, doing organized quantity takeoffs, and understanding how labor, materials, equipment, and general conditions all come together in a final bid. Before this course, estimating felt overwhelming, but now I feel much more confident and systematic.
This course has been very helpful and I learned many useful things about estimating and the construction process. I feel more confident now, and I know I can use what I learned in my future work. I’m thankful to our teacher for the clear lessons, guidance and to everyone who shared their ideas each week. It was nice learning with my classmates in a friendly zone.
The instructor was great, he is very fair when it comes to teaching. His assignments were fair in transitioning while learning.

Course made me knowledgeable about the construction estimating industry. I enjoyed the class and found the text book to be a very valuable tool to be used going forward. I believe I will be able to use my new skills in the work place.
This was a great course, and I feel I've learned quite a lot, in areas I was previously lacking much knowledge in. With the help of my classmates I was able to complete the assignments in the allotted timeframes and with minimal misinterpretation.
I will definitely use what I've learned at my workplace, especially the organizational and conceptual skills that are taught throughout the course.
Overall, I really enjoyed this course. It covered a wide range of estimating topics—everything from rough carpentry and earthwork to electrical, mechanical, and finishes. I appreciated how each module built on the last, and by the end, I felt much more confident in understanding how the entire estimating process works from start to finish.

I really enjoyed this class! I think in my line of work and not having a full construction background like some of my co workers, this course helped me truly put a visual on all of the material lingo I have heard over the last few years in the office. I think I mostly enjoyed the finishes portion because I mostly work with interior finishes in my line of work.
I really enjoyed this course and it gave me so much knowledge that I will be able to use in my line of work.
I have learned so much during this course. It was very much so "hands on" and with really thinking through the material of the course. I am also taking 2 more classes next session as this was my third course of the program. This course gave me a better understanding of the materials, as a consultant I'm not much on site to get to know the materials better but I can at least refer to my notes on material and suggest VE options if needed
I really enjoyed this class because of the different trades that were worked on. This was an eye opener since I'm strictly in the concrete business. By finishing this class I will be able to receive my cert in construction estimating. My next move is to enroll in classes towards a PMP. I'd like to thank you professor, for your time and encouragement and best of luck to everyone!
